Basic nutrients present in food are essential for maintaining health and supporting bodily functions. Here are the main nutrients, their sources, and functions:

      1. Carbohydrates:

        • Sources: Found in grains (such as rice, wheat, oats), fruits, vegetables, legumes, and dairy products.
        • Function: Provide the body with energy, serving as the primary fuel for cellular processes, physical activity, and brain function.
      2. Proteins:

        • Sources: Found in meat, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy products, legumes, nuts, seeds, and tofu.
        • Function: Essential for building and repairing tissues, synthesizing enzymes and hormones, supporting immune function, and maintaining muscle mass.
      3. Fats:

        • Sources: Found in oils, butter, fatty fish, nuts, seeds, avocados, and dairy products.
        • Function: Provide concentrated energy, support cell structure and function, aid in nutrient absorption (especially fat-soluble vitamins), and help regulate hormone production.
      4. Vitamins:

        • Sources: Found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, dairy products, meat, fish, and fortified foods.
        • Function: Essential for various metabolic processes, immune function, vision, bone health, and antioxidant activity. Examples include vitamin A, C, D, E, and K, as well as B-complex vitamins (such as B1, B2, B3, B6, B12, folate, and biotin).
      5. Minerals:

        • Sources: Found in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, meat, fish, dairy products, nuts, seeds, and legumes.
        • Function: Play crucial roles in bone health, muscle function, nerve transmission, fluid balance, and enzyme activity. Examples include calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium, iron, zinc, and iodine.
      6. Water:

        • Sources: Found in beverages, fruits, vegetables, soups, and other foods.
        • Function: Essential for maintaining hydration, regulating body temperature, transporting nutrients and waste products, lubricating joints, and supporting various metabolic processes.

By consuming a balanced diet rich in these essential nutrients from a variety of sources, individuals can support overall health, energy levels, and well-being.
