Theism is a belief system centered around the existence of one or more gods or divine beings who are considered to be the creators and rulers of the universe. In theistic worldviews, God or gods are typically seen as personal, conscious entities with power, knowledge, and agency beyond human comprehension.
Theism encompasses a wide range of religious traditions, including Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and many others, each with its own conception of the divine and theological doctrines. Theistic beliefs often include concepts such as divine providence, moral guidance, and the possibility of communication or relationship with the divine through prayer, worship, or religious rituals.
While theistic beliefs vary in their specific doctrines and practices, they generally share a common emphasis on reverence for the divine, devotion to religious teachings, and the recognition of a transcendent source of meaning, purpose, and order in the universe. Theism contrasts with atheism, which denies the existence of gods, and agnosticism, which maintains skepticism or uncertainty regarding the existence of a divine reality.
